When i read the obituairies it seems like everyone is dying of cancer and in their 50's or even 40's. There is so much stuff of the internet and TV that says that heating stuff up in plastic in the microwave causes cancer. Then they were linking antibiotics to breast cancer. This is all getting so crazy. A friend of my family just died after suffering for 2 years with pancreatic cancer and he suffered and i bet he weight 80 pounds when he died. This is all so disturbing. I read where some man said him and his wife lived a very healthy life of eating right and excercise and she was recently diagnosed with a terminal cancer so they went out and bought a fry daddy and are enjoying the rest of their life and wondering if it was all for nothing (not eating what they wanted) all those years.

I have to respond, especially after reading the comment left by someone that said "childhood cancer is a lot less common"! The truth is cancer rates are declining in every age group EXCEPT the 14-19 year old age group. This group is seeing an INCREASE of cancer rates. They have difficulties finding physicians that will treat them, because many think that they can be treated as an adult, and that is simply false. They are still children and should be treated by a pediatric oncologist, or other appropriate pediatric physician. Also, it is a fact that 90% of children under the age of 14 are involved in clinical trials for their cancer. Only 10% of children ages 14-19 are involved in clinical trials for their cancer. This is an age group that is nearly invisible and that is terrifying. I am the mother of a 14 yr. old cancer patient; therefore, these statistics are disturbing to me. Thank you for asking your question and letting me rant a bit! :o)

And you are very right...this is all very disturbing at ANY age group. Cancer is a nasty, terrible, disease. However, we are seeing the rates fall in most age groups and there have been many advancements. Unfortunately, a key to prevention has not yet been found.

I know what you mean. It seems that there are many chemicals that are causing cancer and that we aren't getting the warnings we really need......from the FDA, EPA, or government. I know they do let us know about some, but overall I agree; people are dying of cancer at earlier ages. It could be lifestyle, over-eating, lack of exercise, poor diet, tanning beds, too much stress and worry, and, like you mentioned, things such as plastic in the microwave. I don't know if that's true, but I've read it in email forwards.

it is disturbing but its a product of what the world has become. all the cars on the streets giving off exhaust fumes,,processed foods that are made by machines,,cig smoke or second hand smoke,,leads in old paint,,mercury in the old tuna cans,,aerosol sprays,,chemicals in cleaners,,airplane fumes,,you name it ,,we either breathe it in or eat it so its no wonder that people get cancer at a younger age these days or die from a disease that no one has heard of yet.but the cures and treatments are out there now and being improved daily so hopefully one day there will be a total cure.
