santos dumond made the FIRST actual airplane as it is called today .... an actual flying machine who could get of ground and land by the power of his engine and controls in front of lots of people....

The Wright Brothers flew in 1903 while Santos Dumont flew in 1906.

The Wrights were first, in 1903. At that time, Santos Dumont was flying hot air dirigibles, and not yet interested in havier than air vehicles. Later on, around 1905, he decided to start experimenting with airplanes, and in 1906 started flying.

Actually, the correct answer is: Neither of them. The world's first powered heavier-than-air flight was achieved by Richard Pearse, on March 31st, 1902 in Waitohi (near Timaru) in New Zealand.
