I think the proven theory has to do with chemical/electrical firing of neurons in the brain to tell you to get your hand off of the stove-top burner

Physical pain can be lessened through the mind, but we have pain for a reason. I saw a special on TV about children who are born without pain & the parents have to constantly watch them, because they don't know when they're hurting themselves.

Pain can be controled and even averted via the right mindset. Keep in mind that pain in and of itself is not always bad. It usually lets you knwo something is wrong so you can change it if you can.

Sometimes we cause ourselves needless pain. In such circumstances yes pain is a state of mind.

Okay, let's say you're riding along on your bike, and hit a bump, and your testicles get racked on that torture bar that bicycles have. I'm pretty sure that the feeling you'd be feeling at that point wouldn't have anything to do with your mind and everything to do with the fact that your goodies had gotten crushed like grapes.

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and Palindromic Rheumatism. I live in constant pain. I fail to see anything spiritual about it. Pain is a physical reaction to a stimuli.

Pain is physical, mental and spiritual.

It can affect all aspects of a person, which is why humor is so often used for people in severe pain. Laughter, which makes you "happy" suffuses the pain.

Pain is something that your brian tells your body about. There are people who are incapeable of feeling pain. So as far as it being something spiritual, I don't think so.
