Piercing with a CLEAR babrell is a bad idea. Most clear barbells are made of acrylic, and acrylic should NEVER be worn in a healing piercing, and only for short periods of time in a healed piercing. The acrylic is pourous and can harbor tiny amounts of bacteria that is not able to be seen by the nakid idea, and this bacteria can cause infections. I highly doubt you want an infection in your tongue. That would be horrible. Quartz glass is an acceptable material that is clear for a healing piercing, but I'm unsure if they'll use that in a oral piercing or not due to all the movement. Your best bet is to call up your piercing studio and ask them about it.

As a piercer, I would never put a clear barbell in a tongue piercing. Reason for this is clear jewelry comes in a few materials, all bad.

Glass could break and I'm sure you can figure out the consequences of that.

Plastic/acrylic is porous and can harvest bacteria. The mouth is a dirty high traffic area and the last think you probably want is an infection.

Another choice is PTFE which is a semi-transparent flexible material that should not be seen. However, I still don't condone that for an oral piercing, it is porous and can hurt this type or piercing or you

BEST OPTION:
You can find FLESH colored balls for the ends of the jewelry. You can have a stainless steel post with flesh colored balls. But if you have to hide this piercing, why get it?

The piercing shop will first stab you with a needle, then insert the barbell - so, call up the piercing shop and ask them if you can bring your own barbell to be inserted. The only thing that might be an issue is what the barbell is made of - some materials might be better suited for brand new piercings.

when i got mine done, they had to use a long barbell because your tongue swells, but then after that you can change it and put in anything you want, there are some really cool ones out now
