See your doctor to get on the Pill. Even if you don't need it for birth control, it's worth going on for a regular and cramp-free period. It will amaze you how great things are when you don't have cramps anymore!

Starting pain medication early is definitly a good idea, and keep the doses steady. Ibuprofin, often works best, its the main ingredient in advil and midol.
Always a good idea to ask your doctor, thats what she/he is there for. If you dont have a doctor, you could try checking with some of the clinics where you live.
Another possible solution is to go on birth control pills/patch/shot. The hormones in these treatments will regulate your period and most likely take away all or most of the cramping.

When I was in junior high school (middle school) I used to get cramps so bad that they would make me physically ill. My science teacher, who happend to be a man, noticed that once a month I would run out of class holding my hand to my mouth. A few times I didn't even make it to the bathroom - it's bad enough to have to deal with cramps while in school, imagine the embarassment of having to clean up your own vomit from the hallway.
Because my science teacher had a teenage daughter of his own, he was able to figure out what the problem was and suggested I talk to my doctor. (To this day I still have so much respect for him because of that!)
I had tried everything to get rid of the cramps or at least lessen them, but nothing helped. Motrin, Pamprin, Advil, Heating Pads, Battery-operated massagers, etc. I tried it all.
Eventually I took the advice of my science teacher and talked to my doctor. I was put on a low-hormone birth control pill - not because I needed birth control, but because it would help regulate my period and help with cramps. Once I started taking the pill I never had cramps that bad again. I would still get cramps of course, but they were minimal and the vomiting stopped altogether.
I know every woman gets cramps, but I also know that they are much more severe for some of us. Talk to your doctor as soon as possible, there are ways to deal with it so that you don't have to suffer every month. Take care.

1. drink lots of water - even though you get bloated during your period, its due to salt intake, and most people are dehydrated.
2. exercise - not only during your period but at other times - the more fit you are, the less cramping. during your period, do stretches and cardio
3. motrin or ibuprofen or alleve
4. heating pads / hot water bottles / hot shower
5. try not to eat too salty food
6. birth control pills do help with cramping
good luck ...
