This uniform policy has been in place for years. Every year it's tightened up and made more strict, which is harder on parents who try to shop for school clothing. They suspend you from school for things like too many buttons on a polo-style shirt, stitching on the outside of a pocket, thread that is shinier or a different color than the fabric. Over the last 5 years, the gang activity in this school has increased in spite of the dress code. That is a fact, not my opinion. It has done absolutely nothing to quell the violence or gang activity in this school district. Some people say that a dress code like this will help the poor children. That's a load of crap also, because kids aren't stupid. They know what the house looks like that the bus drops you off in front of, and they know if you have free lunches, they also know if you're wearing hand-me-down clothes or clothes that come from Goodwill. All you're doing is supporting socialism when you support a dress code. We don't want to be told by the government what we can and can't wear, why should the government be allowed to tell our children?

I personally like the idea of having school uniforms in ALL schools. For years, they tried dress codes, which never did work! So, why not have uniforms? Nobody gets picked on for what they wear to school, when everyone all looks exactly the same. A few schools around where I live started doing that last year, and at first parents were outraged by the idea. But now nothing is said about it. I also think that an issue, such as this one, should only be dealt with on a local level, or state level. Leave the supreme court out of it, they have more important things to do. Besides, what do we PAY the ACLU for? We sure have an awful lot of fat cat government positions around. All these jobs, and for what reason? How many times in the past year have you read anything in the paper about what the ACLU has done for anyone? It would be zero for me, and I read the paper every day! So, Tinker Bell, or whatever the heck that persons name is, should perhaps find another hobby to take up, OTHER than suing the state of Iowa! I dislike some forms of the government as much as the next nut, but is it worth it to fight with them over something as stupid as this is? Some people are less fortunate, and have to wear what they have to wear. But, do you think sir, that someones RICH moron should be allowed to go to school and taunt others for what they don't have, and quite possibly cannot afford? I do not! Have a good day.

My school has uniforms. I'm ok with it. I neither disagree or agree. I don't think the Supreme Court has rules that school uniforms are no more. It depends on what school your going to and the area of the school. If your school has uniforms and you don't like them, I suggest you talk to your principal or counsler. Until it is really, clearly banned, everyone will know.

In Tinker vs. Des Moines, Justice Harlan DISSENTED. He ruled the school system had the WIDEST AUTHORITY in maintaining order.

One of the main reasons for uniforms in schools is because of the tragic rise in school violence, from inside and out. The uniforms make it easier for school officals and any other security personnel to notice at a glance anyone who should not be in that school. I think anything that helps keep our children safer in school is a good idea.

Yeah, never seen a single public school that even had uniforms as an option.

Lawsuits are pending. However, most suits are brought because parents " cannot afford to buy the uniforms". Well, if they cannot afford the uniforms, they cannot afford the continued appeals.

In our area, it's not "uniforms", it's standardized dressing. I agree with it. Clothes can be very distracting to the learning process.
