In Jesus' time, the sinners liked to hang out with Jesus and the stuffy self-righteous people hated Jesus. Nowdays, churches seem to be filled with the sort of people who used to hate Jesus, and the sinners all find institutional Christianity offensive.

Nice observation. Jesus loved the prostitutes and loan sharks.

Nothing went wrong because its still somewhat the same but separated by religion and different doctrines that are being taught by cults, false religions and non religious sects. There are pharisees and scribes in every congregation and they are there only to keep people from sitting on their wooden pew because they donated it and their family names on it. There are also people who just want a place to be buried in the church cemetery and are not there for the right reasons. These people hate Jesus and think that they are going to Heaven. Paul the apostle said "For by grace you have been saved thru faith that not of yourselves it is the gift of God lest any man should boast."
Sinners are caught up on the guidelines alone sadly they refuse to focus on Jesus to put aside the sin.

Great question, Will!

It's rather dumb to put a blanket statement like that (you implied that everybody who goes to church or believes in God is a stuffy self-righteous person) on all Christians. It's a logical fallacy, because you haven't met all of the Christians in the world, or probably even a very large percentage of them.

i feel that society has lost the true teachings of jesus through false idolizing (the church) and delusions of grandure. its also do to the fact that these self righteous have the most money. sadly whoever yells the loudest gets heard, n what they say may not always be the best thing for religion.

If you are the judge of who is self righteous or who is the sinner I wouldn't put too much credence in your observation.

Wow...another nail on the head hit. Do you want a huge spotlight put on all your thoughts and actions up to the current moment, for everybody to see?

Nothing went wrong. It's your take. Think about it. If it bothers you, maybe you should do something else. Not the kind of place I'd set foot in if I had a gun to my head.

Religious wars, oppression, torture, etc in the name of their religion ruined their image.

The bible fortold these things. If you read Paul's works he speaks extensivly of these "Last days" that we're living in.
