You have asked the same question before, and I have answered it there already, but ok, here we go again (thanks for the extra points):
the "U" refers to somebody not intimate, like someone you would call Sir or Madam. This is not the "I miss you" that would be said to someone you are close to or private (informal) with.
Imagine someone you would call Madam or Sir, like a proffessor at your university, your teacher, your boss, your supervisor etc.
Ik mis U = I miss you (Sir/Madam)
Ik mis jou (slang "je") = I miss you
mijn liefde = my love
