MINIMIZING CAT SHEDDING AND IMPACT OF SHEDDING

1. Feed your cat high-quality dry cat food such as Science Diet or Eukanuba. The original version works well, and there are special ones that are even better for hair and skin.

2. Supplement your cat's dry food with a high-quality wet food .... it really does help keep their hair healthier.

3. Brush your cat 1-2 times every day using a high quality kitty cat hair brush. (Not an ordinary people hairbrush.) Some brushes are designed to really help reduce animal shedding and can be purchased at your local pet store.

4. Attempt to restrict your cat to sleeping in specified areas, so that shedding will be confined to those areas. Some examples: cat trees/cat condos, cat beds, put a small towel on the cat's favorite couch and/or chair. Regularly clean the excess cat hair off of those specified areas.

5. In warmer months, consider getting your cat trimmed by a professional groomer... not necessarily shaved, but shorter hair, at least. This would be appropriate for inside-only kitties in warm climates.

6. Invest in a high-quality Ionic Breeze air filter from Sharper Image (or equivalent). It really helps the cat fur that floats through the air.

7. Invest in high quality replacement air filters for your HVAC unit.

8. Get a good vaccuum for pet hair (Dyson has one specifically for pet hair, by the way), and vaccuum your carpet frequently. Be sure and empty the vaccuum or change the bag regularly.

9. Keep your cat out of your closets if you want to reduce cat fur on your clothes.

10. Consider keeping your cat out of your bedroom (or off your bed) if shedding in that room is a problem.

How about GROOMING the cat? Is this a shorthaired or longhaired cat? If it's a longhaired cat it should be combed - not brushed. Brushes do little to remove the loose hairs of the undercoat and can break and pull out the topcoat hairs. A good quality steel-toothed comb will gently remove the loose dead hairs of the undercoat and leave the topcoat intact. If this is a shorthaired cat then use a Zoom Groom or slicker brush to remove the loose fur. If the shedding seems REALLY excessive it could be something medically wrong with the cat. Feeding the cat a poor quality diet can result in vitamin deficiencies and hairloss as can some diseases. So you might want to consider changing to better quality food and/or having this cat checked out by a vet.

OK - there are a few things you can do. First, brush/comb your cats fur on a daily basis. That will help get all the loose fur before it's all over your house. Second, there are a few products at the pet store to help stop shedding. Look in the cat isle with the shampoos and medications. You'll see it there. Third, I'm sorry, but you have a long-haird cat! The shedding is inevitable!

Use a thin brush, like a shedender, it works really well. Brush your cat once a day. And as for your boyfriend he should learn to deal with it, not every animal is perfect. Or for more of minimal hair everywhere brush the cat twice a day

You can try switching cat food as some times shedding is a sign of poor diet I have had good luck Purina one. Until you sort it, out. Brush, brush and brush again, that is all you can do, in the summer I brush our cat 3 or 4 times daily, do not laugh, we even vacuum her some times, and she loves it. I am serious it is all you can do,

It's all simply a matter of personal preference. I actually have short hair and guys like it. And i prefer a person with short hair over a guy with long hair because long curly hair tends to make guys look also girly.

daily brushing may help or you can speak with a professional groomer to see what they may recommend. Good Luck-have a long hair cat too.

Brush him daily.
Also, talk to the vet, because sometimes shedding can be caused by malnutrition, or a skin fungus/infection of sorts.
Other than that, buy a lint roller, and keep vacuuming!
