That is something you would have to ask your doctor to know for sure. It escapes everyones body differently.

You are definately NOT safe to nurse if you have meth in your system. You will need to pump and dump for a while in order to maintain your supply and prevent engorgement, plugged ducts, etc. I am not sure how long it takes for meth to get out of your system. I'd suggest talking to your doctor or a Lactation Consultant or pharmacist to see what they say about how long it takes to eliminate the drug from your system. And then I'd suggest thinking seriously about the kind of people you're hanging out with who would do this to you.

To those who answered with snarky comments.....

Let's take the question as it's written and give her the benefit of the doubt that she didn't willingly take an illegal drug.

Also....where did she say it was an alcoholic drink? NOWHERE. And even if she did, it IS considered safe to drink in moderation while breastfeeding as long as you time your drinks properly. (The AAP lists alcohol as a maternal medication compatable with breastfeeding.)

Just be careful who you make this comment to. The ycould go and tell social services and then take custody of your baby like that!! it would be considered child endangerment because you are supplying his nutrition and you are the only one that cares for him(if it is just you). just please be careful what you do and say, i had that happen to my friend because her ex made an annonymous call to child protective services and said he was concerned for his child because she was working at a private dance bar to provide for her baby (when her ex refused to pay child support). So now she has been fighting the system for almost 4 months and they look down on her for being a dancer. As for the meth, consult a doctor ASAP, but how do you know it was meth and not something else? just stay away from people like that for the sake of your baby and yourself. good luck

Talk to your doctor. Immediately. Find some new activities, like a mom's group, playgrounds, little league and stay away from loosers that spike people's drinks.

....... what kind of people are you hanging out with!?!?!

...it may not matter anyway because if you wait a few days, your baby may start "breast refusal". Meaning they will no longer take to the breast since they have been drinking from a bottle for even a day. So.... you may never be able to get baby back on the breast.

It all depends on how much meth was in your drink and how much you consumed. Depending on how much you did wait anywhere from 48 hours and a week.To be safe wait a week.

I know that for alcohol you need to wait at least two hours after 1 drink. I don't know about meth, but you should ask your doctor.

Talk to your doctor. You shouldn't drink any alcohol while breastfeeding. At least that is what they told me when my children were small. I had to stop breastfeeding my daughter because I got pneumonia and had to take medication for it.

And I would avoid people who think it is cute or funny to spike someone's drink. You have to be responsible for your actions -- you are a parent now.

I would do some research as to how long that drug stays in your body, then to be sure pump and dump that long and a few days after to make certain its all gone. Your best bet though would be to talk to a Dr to be 100% sure.
