Well it depends on how many people will be eating it and if the avocados are in season or not, because if they are not in season, they will be expensive and hard...
In season are cheaper and softer...

I usually take about 6 avocados and split them with a sharp knife to reveal the pit...
Then take the pit out with the knife by stabbing it with the knife and lifting it out...
Then you squeeze the avocados till all the avocado comes out in a bowl...
Throw away the rind...
Mash up the avocados in a bowl with garlic salt, garlic powder, onion bits to taste as spicy as you like...
You will have to sprinkle each spice in to taste and see how much more you want to add yourself...
Then I take about 6 serreno peppers all ground up, including the seeds, using a food processor...
This will mince all the seeds and peppers really well...
I then combine all ingredients till mixed well and at the last minute I cut up some cherry tomatoes to decorate around the bowl...
I place chips in a separate bowl and serve side by side...
This may serve 2 to 4 people as an appetizer only...
Be sure to refrigerate to get the dip nice and cold...
All the flavors mix better when cold...

Here's a really yummy recipe I've been using for years and everyone loves it :)

Chunky Guacamole

4 ripe avocados
3 limes, juiced
1/2 red onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
2 serrano chiles, sliced thinly
1 big handful fresh cilantro, finely chopped
Extra-virgin olive oil
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Halve and pit the avocados. Scoop out the flesh with a tablespoon into a mixing bowl. Mash the avocados with a fork, leaving them somewhat chunky. Add the remaining ingredients, and fold everything together to gently mix. Lay a piece of plastic wrap right on the surface of the guacamole so it doesn't brown and refrigerate 1 hour before serving.

For starters, it's spelled AVOCADO! Figure one Hass avocado for each person if you really love the stuff like I do. The avocado should be very dark and you should be able to slightly push into the avocado. If it is hard, try gently squeezing until you get one that is slightly softer.

Run a knife around the middle lengthwise. Twist apart. Carefully, thrust the knife into the pit and twist again to remove. Using a soup spoon, trace around the edge and remove the avocado from the skin. If there are any black spots, remove them.

Put the avocado into a bowl and squeeze over it 1/2 fresh lime for every avocado that you use. Using a fork, mash up the avocado and the lime juice. Add a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Then add a dash of hot sauce.(NOT SALSA) Taste. If it needs more of anything, add until it tastes just right. You can also add a tablespoon of chopped onion, fresh red pepper, or 1/2 chopped plum tomato if you like. Some people add cilantro, but I never do because I don't like it.

Once it is all mixed up, put into a serving bowl. Serve with your favorite tortilla chips and margaritas. HAVE FUN!!!

this is how i make it. 2 avocados, smash them up good. Add some lemon juice, 2 teaspoons. Then add sour cream and a little bit of salsa. It is quick easy and the sour cream and salsa help it go a little bit further. And everyone at my house loves it. For a bit of a smoky flavor add cumin and garlic salt. Start with a little bit and add to taste.
