Why are the political parties in the US so divided along party line? Why can't either the Democrats or the Republicans vote their mind instead of towing the line?

Please answer the question and not attack the 'other' party.

Deep down inside, both party members have something in common. They both wish to hold on to power forever if they could because all politicians, regardless of which party, could have controlling power over all Americans plus a lot of money or things that's worth a lot of money. That feels really great! Dividing the country up on opposite ends is a good tactic of getting voters out to elect for either party. Third parties are unwelcome. This is politics, and nothing could be changed soon, unless a majority of average American people stand up and demand political ethics.

Firstly, the parties are in reality so similar in the end, that they are probably doing us all a disservice. Anybody who tries to be too different risks being a radical. In the end, everyone pretty much tows the same line, they just make a good show of bashing the other party.
Secondly, there is nothing inherently wrong with being socialist, unless you are rich and not likely to benefit from "social" thinking.

Leo, what is it about socialism that you can't in good conscience support?

wouldn't that be a dream? I don't vote along any party line - I vote for the best person. When people vote on the party line NO MATTER WHAT is when problems start to happen
