I have been diagnosed with anxiety stress. Am having counselling and the sleeping tablets initially prescribed by my Dr don't work. I've been off sick from my job for 5 weeks and now my GP has given me a form of Prozac. I'm really sceptical. Any experiences shared would be appreciated.

Yes they do work. They are very subtle in their effects and it may be a few days before you notice anything. One side effect i noticed was they made me thirsty.

They do seem to help BUT when you come off them, if nothing in your lfe has changed then it's just like taking the cork out of a bottle and all your pent up emotions come flooding back.

So yes, they did work for me but all they did was delay the inevitable ( a divorce) until I came off them.

Prozac For Stress

BEST thing you can do is look up Prozac on any of the medical websites, medicinenet.com, webmd.com, mayoclinic.com, healthrealage--etc. DO be skeptical. Medications are handed out like Halloween candy these days, with doctors knowing basically nothing about pharmaceuticals. Being informed can actually save your life. I KNOW. A specialist prescribed something that would have been fatal had I taken it. I don't believe Prozac is for stress in any case, but from personal experience--my ex took it in hopes it would improve his being "shy." I saw him on a daily basis, & he became seriously agitated, quick to anger & impossible to transact wth. My sister's daughter took it for anxiety; & she wound up making threatening calls to everyone, in a state of absolute irrationality. These are just examples, but always, always carefully research a medication before you take it. It can also have contraindications with any other medication you're taking. I'm sure that different people have different reactions, but it's very wise of you to question this. I frankly don't see what "sleeping pills" would accomplish in the LONG RUN. I would venture to say you need to get to the cause of your anxiety stress, & resolve it WITHOUT medication if at all possible. Much luck...

NO drugs help with stress. What you need to do is figure out what stresses you out so much, and think of a way to calm down and relax, so that you can think straight, and stop the stress. Sleeping tablets are addicting and do nothing for you.

If you can't sleep at night, try some warm milk or mint and ginger tea. It also helps to have someone to talk to about whatever it is that is stressing you out. Good luck!

I've taken antidepressants before and they truly do help you. As soon as I was out of the situation that was causing my depression, I was able to stop taking them and still maintain a healthy lifestyle and attitude. Just remember, there are a lot of different medications out there and if the Prozac doesn't work for you, your doctor may try another medicine that works a little differently and it may be the one for you. You should really also concentrate on finding out why you are feeling so stressed and try to remove that from your life.

Take it. Stress/anxiety is awful. Just as bad as depression. It will take about 2 weeks to start working. If Prozac doesn't work, try something else; Zoloft is good.

Ok so i'm on it, im 24 and depressed.... I have been for about 4 years now and can say that the only thing thats actuallly given me some hope is my prozec. Don't get me wrong, its not a miracle cure, it will not work overnight either but it does help me and SOME other people.

Here's my review for more info: http://members.dooyoo.co.uk/health-therapies-treatments/prozac/1011805/

not personal experience but friends and I see that it is just a temporally fix
you should try to exercise in the morning listen to classic music
see a psychology
try everthing else before taken a pill
as I get older I realized that we all suffer from some form of
disorder (because of our everyday lives)
try reading book to teach you how to manage stress, I had deal with a lot of stress sometime I want to run away from home
but I am taking one day at a time
I have never taken anything (mainly because I am scare of pills)
A pill won't fix you you need a permant cure
and learn to manage your stress will do that
Good luck & Good Bless

There are some newer and more effective treatments than
Prozac, but I am not a doctor so I can‘t prescribe. Tell your
Doctor that you need something else and he may change
your treatment. I wish you all the best, and get well soon,
Cheers, Iain

What is wrong with Fags and Booze,
20 senior service and half a bottle of rum a day far better than popping pills, Fags should be available on prescription, and booze.
I dont use either, thats why I am unable to sleep and am writing pointless answers at 1.22 a.m.
