Sounds like a scam to scare money out of her. Have her contact the postmaster and the police as well as yahoo to see if they have any contact information (which is highly unlikely). Mail fraud and telephone fraud is illegal, and they can set up a sting or do some research on the people sending the letters. Surely they send an address where to send money?

If the only contact information they provide is a free e-mail address, it is definitely a scam. Yahoo may be able to provide the information they used to open the account, but I'd bet its phony. If the letters she received by mail where postmarked by a meter, the post office can trace the meter number to the authorized user. The post office actually 'owns' the meter. If they use stamps, the post office that canceled the stamps is indicated on the cancellation mark. As for anyone that shows up at her door, insist on seeing a photo ID before identifying herself.

She should change her e-mail address. But she oviiously shouldnt pay those people anything. Especially if they send things with no return address, etc... if she has NO information on them then she shouldnt think that she owes this person any money. And if she gets really scared then she should take it to the police, they could always track things like this.
