Has anyone here been sedated (put to sleep) for wisdom teeth and if so how soon were you able to eat real food again? How soon were you able to go back work? What should someone expect (besides pain) for the first couple of days after the surgery?

When i got my wisdom teeth pulled i didnt get sleeping gas i got laughing gas. Then after the laughing gas they put needles into my mouth to numb the gums and lips(basically your whole mouth) then when my lips were numb they pulled out the teeth. They do it really fast. After being pulled out they give you a choice of which medicine you want. There is a pink flavor that taste like strawberry and gum and a pill form. TAKE THE STRAWBERRY FLAVOR!! After that my parents drove me home. You cant talk because your mouth is numb so i had to use a notebook to write in. Now when you eat.... EAT something soft such as mashed potatos noodles soup jello things like that. DO NOT shove in big amounts of the food you are eating or else you WILL spit it out( yes spit it out on the floor or wherever your eating) i didnt have a job then but after a day i felt better. But I advise you to TAKE THE MEDICINE or else they have to stitch up the wholes of where the teeth were yanked. Since you are being put to sleep it should be better than having laughing gas on you.... Good luck :)

In 45 years of practice I have done, and referred ,several hundred people for 4 wisdom teeth extractions. By far the best way to handle this is to have all 4 taken out at once using IV sedation. You will not feel or remember a thing. But do plan on a week of some discomfort and swelling afterward. Pain pills will get you through fine. And at age 20 you are not considered as being old and having a more difficult time, Good luck.

I had mine removed last year, and they didn't sedate me. They just gave me some novacain (spelling). I had to wait a couple days to a week to eat real food. I was pretty much okay in a few days. My cheeks swelled up pretty big, and I was sore (I also got an infection...make sure they get all the sutures out whenever they plan to do that, they forgot one of mine and it got infected) You are pretty much okay after they take the sutures out 2-3 days later. Still sore but you can eat real food not to long after that.

it varies. I ate the next day, but mine hurt for 5 months. others I know said they were fine after 3 days. It all depends. I was put under and had all four pulled at the same time.

Your face will swell up a lot. You might even see bruises on your cheeks. The hardest part is recovery because you can get dry socket if you are not careful.
