catfish a very prolific in just about every body of water. the hook sizes can vary I like a 3/0 circle hook as they seem to hook more in the mouth than be swallowed. For bait you can use anything from chicken livers to squid bot the trick is to leave it out in the sun so that it starts to stink. There are also comercial dough baits available at any retailer like walmart.
The bite: catfish a a little less picky with bait and will often just pick it up and swim away. So it will just feel like a pull.

In the river flats. The Mississippi River is a great river to catch catfish. A good bait is stink bait, or chicken livers, or just catch some small fish like blue gill or carp and cut them up and put them on a hook. Hook size depends on bait and potential size of fish. If you know that the fish in the body of water you are fishing in are big then you would need a stronger and bigger hook, but if you're fish are only a few pounds, a Carolina rig bass hook will work just fine. When a catfish bites the hook he just places it in his mouth and swims away, when you see tension and or a fast sag in your line you need to set the hook.

hello, Good baits for catfish include hot dogs, cut bait, bread in dough balls, stinkbait and other manmade catfish baits.
Good places for big catfish is most of the time on rivers or large lakes
generally you should just use a regular size hook. Not very large and not too small so that the bait wont fall off.

buy some eagle claw circle hooks. the catfish practically hook themselves get a 4/0.
the best baits i like are small bream/sunfish. my dad likes to use cheesebait, but you'll want a treble hook for it.
fot blue cats or channel cats, it's usually a 'thump'. for flatheads, it's more of a constant pull.
good luck.

Catfish lie near the bottom of rivers, and near underwater crevices. They are bottom-feeders. Bamboo pole and corn or worm will work.
