Kissing contributes to chapping your lips. Its like licking your lips also contributes to it. It is the saliva mixed with the rubbing that contributes to the chapping problem.
I might suggest both using a little lip balm before smooching. Good luck!

I think it's because saliva kind of dries out your lips and when you kiss there's a lot of saliva! When you get chapped lips and you just lick them it doesn't make them any better. So, I think that's the reason!
