In addition to the many Christian denominations, there are also a large number of sects that call themselves Christian. A sect is a group that follows a reprehensible leader rather than Christ as an example. Very few people admire such leaders.
Two examples of outrageous leaders are Jim Jones and David Koresh.

I'm catholic and there are different sects in christianity because people think of different ways of of reaching heaven. The're aren't any sects in catholicism there is only one kinda of catholic. Jesus wanted no division within the church and people come up with all different ideas on what should happen and how things should be done and say it isn't division when it is.

Christianity has a lot of denominations, and within each large denomination there are differences in doctrinal beliefs from one baptist church to another. The easiest answer is that people are just that - people. Human. If a leader of a church doesn't like something from scripture, he changes his beliefs to accomodate for what he wants. So, you kind of have to sift through the mud to find what you believe is right. That is not to say that whatever you find is right - I don't believe that any church has got everything down just right. Follow God, what He desires is pretty clear in scripture. If you find a Church that sticks as close to the scripture as possible - you've found a good church.

ok, just read some of the answers and i think you mean denominations. Yes there are a lot of denominations under Christianity. Catholic, episcopal, lutheran, methodist, etc to name a few. No, it doesnt get people upset. Although the reasons behind the Episcopal schism right now is a hot topic.... but nothing to get your shorts in a bunch over. :)

If the sects get too wild, it erupts with schism.
