First most here know nothing about radar guns.
A police officer is required to do a calibation test. This is done by a tunning fork test. Normally done at two vibrations
(speed) and the officer has to log this into a log book keep in his car
This has to be done either at the start of thier shift, or prior to using the unit
The test is not calibrating it, the officer can't do any calibration, the unit would have to be taken to a shop for that.
The officer at times uses the wrong term, but they are merley testing it with a tunning fork.
Next of course he has to be licenced by the FCC, the Officer has to be POST certified on radar and the certification has to be up to date. Also the officer has to have his POST police officer certification up to date and all of his annual training up to date.
It can not be raining or snowing or real foggy.
Also there is an entire procedure that the officer has to testify to, not just point the gun and get a speed, he has to do a tracking, to see a speeding car, to focus and follow that car and then get a reading. Without proper tracking, he can not prove it was your car ( unless you were the only car on the road)
Beyond that you can pay a electronic enginner to come in and dispute the level of accracy of the unit

The best way to beat a radar gun ticket is to drive at or below the posted speed limit. If you dont get a ticket, then you dont have to beat it

Slow down. Why are you trying to "beat" a ticket that you obviously deserved? Radar guns do NOT have to be calibrated like you think. They have to be tested daily but we won't go in to that. You will NOT beat the ticket and you were probably doing what was ticketed so own up to it.

When you are in front of the judge try something clever they never heard before like the tuning fork defense. It could mean 100s to 1000s of tickets will be thrown out because you were smart enough to bring the calibration into it.

Put the ticket on the floor and give it a few swats with your broom. Then you drive (slowly - or at least the speed limit) to the city offices and pay your ticket!

Put it in a bowl with some butter and sugar and a couple of eggs. Get out the electric beater and turn setting to "High." Proceed to beat ticket, eggs, butter, and sugar. Be sure to keep scraping down the sides of the bowl...

I try to keep my speed right about the posted limit just to harass and harangue those speed gunners.

if i'm not mistaken radar guns are tuned to different pitch tuning forks for different speeds and if you( lawyer) get him to admit that he tuned it himself and he is not certified with its usage maybe you can get off scott free except court costs--- was told before that if you are under 10 mph in speeding its hard for them to prove you were speeding but in cases above 10 mph your dead meat-- good luck but investgate this stuff for yourself
