My church assists those in their midst as well as those in far away places.
We run a place called the Samaritan Center which is funded by our donations of money and food and through selling cast-off donated clothing and household goods. We employ social workers and counselors to help those in need learn how to better manage their finances and to promote better living and harmony for their families.

Tithes should be for the local church. In our church we have envelopes where you can specify which amount goes for your tithe, how much goes to missionaries, building repairs, etc.
Additionally, we are a self governing church, so any expenses we have or offerings we give to other causes have to go to a vote of the members. In early January, we have a meeting outlining exactly how much money was brought in and how much was spent on what. On top of that, anyone is free to stop in and ask questions of the pastor at any time.
Unfortunately, there are many churches that are not this way. And as an aside, if a member is in need, we do help him/her.

That is a good question. The church I belong to does collect both Offerings and Tiths. The Tiths are used to help in the running of the church. (it is a world wide orginization with 12 million members and congregations in many countries world wide.) Offerings are collected first to help those needing it in each individual congregation. If there is extra they are collected and used to fund world wide desaster aid.

If they started to help within the church, drained their funds there, and then didn't spend as much helping those poor and needy outside the church, people would then complain (including those not getting help) that the church is selfish and looking to it's own needs first. Right?
I'm going to assume you live in America or in another developed country. Surely you wouldn't hold a grudge against your church for deciding to help a third world country, because poor means something completely different in third world countries.
With that said, I do feel sympathy towards you or whomever it is that needs the financial support - and I pray that your or they find it.

Well, God did say to help people in other foreign countries..and the church does take money out for them and their pastor..but think you have the right to go to church and the money to buy things and have the right to believe in God, but other countries don't have that chance and it is a opportunity to spread hope to the lost so they can come to Christ...giving money to far away places help Evangelists to preach to the lost..so help the lost and be a part.

I never thought about that. Even know people in their own congregation are in need, I'm absolutely sure that they are not in need as much as the people where the congregation is sending the money. I think that maybe they should split it, that sounds fair!

many churches have outreach ministries that they tend to. Our church collects tiths to help in the running of our church, we too have to pay an assessment to the diocese, then we have our local ministries that we tend to. (hence the people in need in our own community, then state, and our sister parish) and then of course our mission in africa. we dont ignore those in need in our parish, we cant, the need is too obvious, but we do try to spread the wealth if we can. :)

That depends on their charter. What the elders determine. The congregations that I have been members of have always taken care of local needs.

you may get out. you may stay energetic with issues you like. There could come a time whilst love is misplaced. via being nicely rounded and treating your self with love you stand a huge gamble at getting via. What do i comprehend, i've got enjoyed and misplaced. Love isn't tremendously.
