I dont think that it matter if hes laid off or not. I think that if hes a sweet caring guy, you'll find away to get you something.. Or even just do something with you, say spending a night with you watching movies and getting back-rubs.. I think that even if he cant afford to get you something nice, he'll do something with you... But I cant answer this question to the fullest because i dont know what kind of guy he is.. Even if he doesnt get you something, just remember, its not always what you get its what you got... HIM! :D Good Luck...

Yes you should except the gift hun, if you dont ,even if you mean well , to a man it will make him feel less of a man and it will hurt his feelings. When you receive the gift show so much emotion of happiness that will make him feel so good inside. Besides if he is short on cash and he buys you a gift that should make that gift seem more like gold. Not many people who have little money would do that. So treasure it hun , and hold on to this man :-)

If you are automatically expecting a gift sounds selfish.
If he just lost his job how about just going to a park for a few hours or going to the beach and hanging out...somewhere peaceful and just enjoy the day.

there are many gifts around you..you just have to pay attention to nature.

it hard when you got no money especially when your boy/girl friend birthday is just around the corner and the holiday's are coming to i would like to see him try to maybe cook a special dinner or bake a cake thing like that means more to some people then a gift good luck

If he doesn't have the money he shouldn't be pressured. If your relationship is all about receiving gifts then it isn't really a relationship based on love. You can also talk 2 him and find out whats really going on. You can't always share the spotlight. If he is in time of need then help him, don't look for comfort because that is being slefish (u know wut i'm saying)

Best of luck hunnz

You probably shouldn't literally expect it, just kind of hint about it, or help him out by getting him a gift. That way you can kind of signal him to that direction without being too pushy.

i wouldnt expect one if he does not have much cash.
he may have somethign in mind that does not cost money and that can be just as nice. I know you prob. have your heart set on a gift...but if he has no money to get one. Maybe he will borrow money from someone.

Never expect a gift. If he is thoughtful enough, he will do something nice or romantic for you. He doesn't need money for that! But never EXPECT anything, you may dissappointed if you do.
