Homemade Dumplings
1 1/2 cups Gold Medal all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon parsley flakes, if desired
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons shortening
3/4 cup milk
Mix flour, parsley, baking powder and salt in medium bowl. Cut in shortening, using pastry blender or crisscrossing 2 knives, until mixture looks like fine crumbs. Stir in milk.
Drop dough by 10 spoonfuls onto hot meat or vegetables in boiling stew (do not drop directly into liquid). Cook uncovered 10 minutes. Cover and cook 10 minutes longer.

I would add potatoes to the Beef Stew and serve it with a big piece of a dark whole grain bread with Butter.

A meaty wheat bread well-buttered...cabernet sauvignon...you got a complete meal. Mashed potatoes would be redundant, pasta would compete, rice would be superflous. Beef stew is an all-in-one meal. Bread and butter is the perfect compliment. Dessert? Apple pie or crisp...YUM!!

We like cheese muffins with beef stew...
2 c Bisquick baking mix
1 c shredded cheddar cheese
milk to make a soft dough. Mix well.
Fill greased muffin tins about 1/2 full. Bake 15 - 20 min at 350, or till golden brown. Makes about 12.

I love to cook some fresh buttermilk cornbread, cut open a slice, put it in the bottom of a bowl, and put the stew on top. My husband likes his stew over rice.
Sounds yummy!

I always cook potatoes and carrots in the stew, then it's a one pot meal. Serve french bread on the side.

I think all of them would be great. Not cornbread for me though, a nice hearty dense bread for dipping. And a cool salad (of some kind, you never know now!) maybe mac salad on the side?

A loaf of crusty bread. Or you can buy large buns, scoop it out and put the stew inside it.
