Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda over the stains, then pour some water over it... just enough for you to see the soda start to fizz. Then rub it with a clean cloth, dab dry and it will work a treat. Another tried and tested method is to use biological washing powder. Same method but dab off with a clean cloth .

For clothing, it's easy. Just do this:
Cover the stain in peroxide. Then use a pretreater stick on it, let it sit for awhile (I like to wait at least overnight. If you don't wait long enough, it won't come completely out, and you'll have to do it again), or even a week or longer, and wash it like you normally would the next time you wash clothes. The stain will come out, no matter how old it is, or how many times it's been through the dryer. Works for me every time! Easy, almost no time or work involved, and only takes a minute!
I know you asked about carpets, so if you could keep anyone that's a little too curious (i.e. small children, animals, etc) away from it, you could try it on the carpet, then get a carpet cleaner and use that on it. I haven't tried this on carpet, but it should work there, also

Bissel makes oxyclean type rug cleaner which is amazing. It looks like 2 silver cans strapped together and is at Walmart in the rug shampoo machine area. Not sure of exact name. Works on old stains and upholstery. UNREAL

I was in JoAnne's Fabrics today and they had stain removers that specialized in different stains, made by a company called Carbona. They had a Carbona Blood Stain remover there. I've never tried it, so I'm not guaranteeing it works, but you could try it.

Call one of those cleaning companies that specialize in crime scene clean-up. They are listed in the phone book and clean up gross crime scenes such as murders or suicides when someone's head blows up and there's blood all over the place. They would be experts in cleaning up your placenta explosion.
