Greece has a total area of 131,957 km2 (slightly smaller than the state of Alabama in US; half the size of United Kingdom in EU) with a coastline of 15,021 km (5 times more than France!!) and with thousands of islands.
The total population is 10,934,097 included 600,000 economical immigrants from various countries. (EU citizens are considered Greek citizens)
Greece is the most homogeneous country in Europe (more than 97% of the population are ethnic Greeks, but there is also a 1.3% Muslim minority which lives mainly along the borders with Turkey). The capital of Greece is Athens (metropolitan area: 4,000,000) and the second largest city is Thessaloniki (m.a.: 1,000,000) the biggest city of real Macedonia (the Greek Macedonia not the Slavic/Albanian Macedonia).
The growth rate is now 4-5%. For a long period of time (1953-1973), Greece was second in the world in growth rates after Japan. Greece holds the 30th position in the world economy and it is considered an advanced nation with a powerful military (the Greek army is considered to be one of the best in the world) and economical force.
Greece is number one investor in the Balkans and controls big parts of the Albanian economy,
FYROM’s (Slavic/Albanian-Macedonia) economy, and Bulgarian economy.
Greece used to be very bigger than now. Greek states controlled the black sea, eastern Mediterranean, the cost of Asia Minor, Southern Italy and Sicily and the Balkans. There were Greek colonies in France, Spain and Africa.
Alexander the Great expanded the Greek world and brought the Greek culture and language all the way to India. Because of Alexander, the Greeks controlled the know world (Egypt, Syria, Middle East, India) for more than 300 years. {Alexander was from the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia (Greek Macedonia or real Macedonia or Macedon). Don’t confuse the Greek (real) Macedonia with the modern state of Slavic/Albanian-Macedonia that uses the same name as they are not related at all}
The last peak of Greece as a super power was the Greek empire of the middle ages, the famous Byzantine Empire.
Constant wars and painful defeats for centuries declined the Greeks and Greece is now the size of the modern state!
(Some of the other answers are really funny but some are completely unhistorical, imaginative, brainless, fanatic, and even ridiculous)

Greece today is pretty big but before 1913 it was only cities down by Athens!! Today they occupy a large territory that belonged to the country MACEDONIA!! After 1913 they changed names of cities,villages,lakes and rivers!! The MACEDONIAN people that still lived in that part were stripped of their human rights!!! They were not allow to speak the Macedonian language!! That is why Greece till today still right propaganda about the MACEDONIAN nation!!!
