the Regular Army (active duty) provides much more in the way of bonuses and benefits. The Reserves offer less, seeing there isn't as much of a commitment.

While on active duty, you have 100%medical and dental and a full pay check. In the Reserve, you only receive health benefits while at drill or activated...

At a minimum, you need your GED. If a GED is your only education, do not plan on receiving a bonus.

In the Army Reserves you only have to do 2 weeks a year and 1 weekend a month. On active duty you live the military life 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. There is a BIG difference. Yes, you must have your diploma or GED for both.

The difference lately seems to be none but it use to be that the Active duty is a full time job and the Reserves train one weekend out of a month and 2 weeks a year. The enlistment is the same and yes you have to have your diploma and the reserve benefits are few and far between. If you fullfill your contract you do get the GI bill and you are eligible for SGLI which is the life insurance of the military.
