God isn't something you have to look for in a building. The building is for fellowship. You know, a sense of community. It is possibly a remnant from a time when the church was a form of power almost like a nation (see Catholic church) but you don't need a church or hegemony to have a full and valid connection with God.
The building also teaches. Not everyone was raised to be faithful, and many of those do not understand the bible anyway. The bible lessons are useful at some churches. Unfortunately, many churches do not understand the bible or they twist it to fit their own personal agendas.
Just find God how He wants you to find Him. Only you and Him know that.

A church is just a place where you can go to be apart of a family and worship him all together, but it's not neccesary. You can find God anywhere! People often worship and pray throughout the day aswell as attend church on Sundays. If you don't like the sermon, don't go. You can do it how you want, it's just I think church helps you to keep it up where as at home you may forget. But algud!! Do whatever you feel like. Hope this helps. =)

There's absolutely nothing wrong with seeking God in a building, if he truly exists there.
Catholics physically encounter the one, true God in their churches, and receive him personally.
In a very real sense, it is Jesus himself who conducts our worship services, and who prays to his Father for our needs.
You can't experience this type of a miracle anywhere else.
So yes, you're missing out.
And you can't possibly honor God better than his own son Jesus, does.
But you don't have to be a loser forever. The Church is always open.

Generally speaking, folks don't go to church to "look for God." They go to church to hear about God. Sermons bring the Word of God into our current times. Makes it live for us now.
Some of the greatest saints said God is found in the things he created. Theresa of Avila met God in the woods. Forests, lakes and rocks. But that doesn't mean they didn't attend church.
Church is where we have our community. That's what Jesus taught. To look after one another. In Community. That's what religion means. Community is when we are the presense of God for one another.

God is everywhere. A building is as good a place as any. The purpose of the church building is to provide a place for those of like minds to come together and worship together. If you are still "looking", you can keep looking anywhere you want to.

add reading your Bible and attending chuch picanics and you have a good plan, cuz you are not to refuse fellowship, and you need a little supervision to keep you on the right track, thats from the Bible not the picanic basket.
One (some actually) good thing large gatherings in large buildings does is provide ministeries like grief counseling, youth groups for clean fun and fellowship.

Welcome the deist thought line. God doe not intervene in the day to day but judges on the way you lived your life not the shirt you wore to Church! Many great people have felt this way. Including one of the greatest thinkers of all time Ben Franklin also Thomas Jefferson.

The Bible says "Forsake not the assembling of yourselves together!"
Jesus also said "Wherever 2 or more are gathered in my name, there I will be also."
You don't have to go to a church building, but the Bible says that we are to worship him in groups (2 or more Christians, by definition is a church).

If you are a Christian, then the Bible says that as believers, we should not forsake the assembling of ourselves together. We need fellowship with one another, and to learn more about the Lord, and worship Him together.
