What kind of litter do you use? If you're using the clay or sand type litter, a little baking soda added to it can help. After experimenting with different types of litter, I found that pine pellets (Feline Pine or ExquisiPine) were best for my nose and easier to clean.

Aside from the type of cat litter used, scoop it at least twice a day, clean any messes they may make off the side of the box, sweep around the box and clean the whole thing out every week. Good luck to you! Cats are enjoyable, to be sure, but they more so when you don't have to smell their little "presents".

I've been where you are. And like you, I have 3 cats.

Get 2 boxes, and clean them every day at least. Try adding a little baking soda to the litter now and then: Baking soda is great for controling a lot of odors.

If that doesn't work, look at the cat food. Some kinds seem to create more odor than others.

Good luck!

Clean it at least twice per day.
Get one of those hooded litter pans with the filter. They are kind of pricey, but it helps to contain the odor.
I use ordinary anit-bacterial spray(such as Lysol spray) to spray the inside of the hood and the litter surface after each cleaning. It helps and has the added advantage of being anti-bacterial as well as anti viral and is cheaper than the stuff made expressly for the purpose.
Since I've got 45 cats, all I can say is that these measures have at least kept it down to something bearable. It may not eliminate the problem altogether.

How many litter boxes do you have? If you only have one for three cats you might want to consider investing in another one (or two for that matter). Try Tidy Cats Multiple Cats litter. Its the best one I found that doesn't smell as bad as the rest of them. Clean it every day, or twice a day, if needed.

We have two cats and use Fresh Step cat litter with odor eliminating carbon. It works really well. Clean the box every three or four days and change the litter out every month. You may also need to get a larger box. We had to. Hope this helps. Also, baking powder in the bottom of the pan works great.

I have five cats, and once I went to good, scoopable litter, I never looked back.

DO NOT get the really cheap clay stuff.

Get a good, scoopable kind, like Tidy Cat or Smart Scoop, or as someone else said, Fresh Step.

I use Tidy Cat, Multiple Cat, Immediate Odor Control, and IT WORKS.

It costs more, but oh, is it ever worth it!

I scoop out the box morning and evening, and have no problem!

well if it stinks that bad perhaps you need to clean the box throughly with bleach let it dry and get some baking soda to put into the bottom of the box before adding the litter...you should also be using multiple cat litter as well there are odor crystals in most of them also arm and hammer makes a powder you can add to your litter

Use Multi cat litter, and clean it out once a day, or more. I have 2 cats and I clean it out every morning, but somedays they go more then usual, so I scoop it out twice. Also if you don't use scoopable litter, try it. I had to change to scoopable, and it made a big difference. Good luck.

change the litter often....otherwise put some charcoal beneath the litter layers with a wire screen separating them....could get rid of the smell for a while though...
