God knows the desire of your heart...keep praying!
Be persistent, pray without ceasing is what the Bible tells us. If you want it...go after it! It is a gift for everyone (that is born again).
Grace to you!

Speaking in tongues in NOT an evidence that a Christian has received the Holy Spirit. Speaking in tongue is a GIFT from the Holy Spirit. it will be given to you if and when the need arises NOT everyone will receive this gift. One of the gifts for example is healing. Is it a requirement or a proof that you can heal the sick in order to show proof that you are a Christian. NO ! Or does every Christian need to be able to do miracles in order to be a "real" Christian? Again, the answer is NO. These are gifts given only to some people in the church for the edification of the church body. Some will be able to speak in tongues, some will be able to heal, some will have the gift of preaching (not everyone can stand in the pulpit and preach isn't it?) Dont believe me - read I Cor 12: 6-12)
The "FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT" is another matter. Every Christian MUST bear the fruits of the spirit. You maybe confusing the fruits and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. What are the fruits of the Spirit?- see Galatians 5:22 which is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, etc.)
So dont be discouraged if you dont speak in tongues. Charismatics elevate "speaking in tongues" as a test that one is baptised by the Holy Spirit. Read I Cor. 12 again - it is a very plain explanation that only "some" will get that gift, just as some will be good preachers, some will heal, some will perform miracles, etc. It does not say that of those baptised by the Holy Spirit, all will speak in tongues, all can preach in the pulpit in front of thousands of people, all will be able to heal all manners of diseases...etc.
I hope you get the point. I pray that you show the gift of the spirit because that is the test of the real Christian.

The evidence is not in speaking in tongues, That scripture has been so skewed that it's ridiculous. The evidence of the Baptism is in the change of your heart. Are you living totally different and seeing things in a new light. The things you once loved are now hated? That's the evidence, not the speaking of tongues. This is Pentecostal nonsense, I've seen more people posses ed by demons in the Pentecostal church than anywhere else. Would the Holy Spirit cause a woman to fall over and have her expose her undergarments in the so called "slain in the spirit" process????? NO.

Not everybody receives the gift of tongues. The Holy Spirit has many gifts that he bestows on people. To some just might be perseverance or some might be understanding or another is healing because you do not speak in tongues does not mean you do not have the Holy Spirit. It also may be what was done to receive him too. Have you been baptized?

If you are a born again and baptized Christian, remember you are a part of the Church, the Body of Christ.
If the Body is full of mouth and tongue, it cant walk, see, take, breathe, ... I think you understand what I mean.
Speaking in different tongues are not evidence of Holy Spirit.
Have you made a covenant with the other church members? or you made a covenant with your Lord and savior?
Its God's wish whether you should receive the gift of Tongue or prayer or doctrine.
Be of good faith and pray God that His will to be done on you.

It is available to everyone, no matter what some people try to tell you. Remember in Acts the promise was to "all those who are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call". That means the promise is still in effect, and for our generation.

A reasonable question although not a matter of life and death. If you are sincere shouldn't you be asking God directly?
While waiting for your answer I encourage you to apply other biblical concepts that you do understand.

God is a truly personal God who carefully chooses the gifts he gives.
Not everyone is suited to speak in tongues, and not everyone who does honors God with their speech.
Trust God to do what's best, keep practicing, and just relax in your faith.

Speaking in tongues only happens once you have put all of your faith in God. You have to love God more than yourself, more than your family, more than your children (if you have them), more than everything. God said to love him first, and your family second. Only then will he grant you the holy privilege of speaking his divine language.
Put God FIRST in your life. This takes more than prayer. It takes someone who is truly ready to dedicate the rest of their lives to the ministry of Christ. It has to be your number one priority. You have to be obsessed with serving God! You have to be addicted to his Holy name! Hallelujah!
