And I mean using adult profanity. Do you think it is dysfunctional parenting? I see it in casual observation. How do you react and what is your opinion of it.

Poor parenting skills in combination with poor social skills. Hopefully the children will identify with some other positive role model and grow to be decent human beings.

I never have done that in public, but I'm going to use an example what happened to me when my child was 4 yrs old. (He is now 15 and I'm proud to say that he's a top student.) He decided to have a temper tantrum in the store. I left him there on the floor crying and screaming, while I just stood three paces away from him waiting until he calmed down. Of course I could have picked him up and risk hurting himself and myself or just walked out of the store with him crying and yelling. Regardless that I had a few customers tell me that I wasn't doing the right thing. I know that I'm a good mother, and am displining my children the best of my ability without the language and slapping. Now I have seen parents do as you said, this does bother me as these parents are beyond the discplining there children but are verbal and physcial abusive. But I should also state that a slap or two on there behind is not the end of the world. I'm sure we have all done it one time or another. Further do it in private not in public where someone can think that you're abusing your child. Alas, its sad that this discplining issues have gone to the extreme with these experts, and for them to tell you follow these guidelines, rules and how to which really don't seem to work at all. Look at today society. Something is definatly wrong here with todays young children, and teenagers. I personally believe that we parents should be a little more stricter and less giving in to our children. They're spolied and too much tv and video games have changed society.

I don't agree with the behaviour, but in this society the nuclear family is under so much stress that I'm surprised there isn't even more child abuse. Most people make judgments especially non-parents but do nothing to help people in trouble.Perhaps offering some assistance instead of stares and disapproving opinions are in order.Every family is dysfunctional. It's the American way of life. It's too stressful to live a calm and gentle life. Have a great day.

I have teenage kids and younger. I would never hit at my children. And far as cussing them out in public. Well that is a no go too. I think there is other was of taking care of problems then doing that. I think that is bad parenting. Slapping a child is child abuse. I do not care what age the child is. There is no need for it.

it doesn't take a poor person to curse. It's all across the board. Gosh, some of the comments in here. People should mind their own business. Sometimes, some kids need a little wake call to get their attention. Quit trying to mind other people's parenting skills until you've been in their shoes. You don't know the whole situation except you caught a glimps of it, so if your not those kid's parent you should mind your own business. Some of the comments in here says to call police, dps, you don't know what really happened and you jump the gun by saying call so, and so. Are you going to take care of their children when the kids are taken out of their house for some nosey people who don't know what's going in on??? Just because we can report or call on someone by surmising a glimps of what we saw does not make it valid for people to abuse the system as to over load the burden of society for miniuture infraction.

If my kids are with I'll cover their ears and tell the parents in question to keep their profanity down because there are children around. Maybe they'll feel guilty and realize they made a mistake. My opinion of people like that is they are generally poor and have little education.

The child's behavior problems (if any) are a direct result of bad parenting... so the parents are hitting and cussing because of their own negligence. I find it disgusting when there's so many loving couples in the world that would adore and love a child who simply cannot have them when there's abused children wasting away with parents who cannot handle themselves. I hurts me to see this and I can't help but wonder what they do to the kids in the privacy of their homes. It is worse than dysfunctional parenting... It's abuse.

It is illegal!! Call police immediately - do not lose track of the animal hurting a child. Intervene only if child is in danger - parent could become violent towards you if confronted, but do way would I allow a child to be hurt in front of me. I have called down verbal abuse a few times.

I think that parents slapping and swearing at their kids in public or for that matter in the home shows a total lack of control in their own lives. It is called abuse and is totally unacceptable. It is not right at ANY time. If you see this abuse do not be afraid to call the police and report it. It is WRONG.

I get angrey with those parents! I will tap my childs reaer end if they do wrong but never call them a mean and nasty name while out in public nor at home. That is how a child will get a complex.
