I'm 25, so I know it's not illegal, but I was wondering why he continuously flirts with me, then when I e-mail him he is extremely formal (And I'm not e-mailing him a sexual letter or anything.) Is he trying to keep the fact that he's flirting with me a secret? I don't get it, because he's said things to me that are definitely flirty in front of my friends but then when we have briefly talked alone he is completely formal again. What's going on? He hasn't asked me out and I'm not sure if I would want him to. I've seen lusty looks from him, but he seems to blow hot and cold.

If he only flirts with you when you're with your friends, maybe he has a thing for one of your friends? When does he exactly give you lusty looks and how can you be so sure it's a lusty look. Maybe you're just imagining it because you're secretly attracted to him, why else would you be so concerned about this when it's not even illegal, like you say?
Just because you're over 18, it doesn't make it inappropriate. A professor and student relationship while class is still in session is something that can actually get a professor fired.

Could be that some people are naturally flirty. It's against school policy for a professor to date a student so he might not want to get into trouble. He just might not be interested, like I said some people are social flirts. I know some people that are that way.

it's not illegal but it's ethically wrong, he is your teacher and in the position of power. he could keep the emails formal so that nothing could be traced back to him and that there is no proof of his flirting with you.
as for tha tcomment about what you're wearing. what she wears has nothing to do with anything. are you saying that the clothing a woman wears is the reason she gets hit on/raped etc?

It's clear he wants others to be impressed. That's why he plays the games in front of others but not with you alone, and not by email.

he may regret his actions that is acting flirty in front of your friends and may be worried that you could hold it against him at a later time since he is in a position of power. but that doesn't mean he doesn't like you, I dunno what else could be wrong with him... you could find out and ask him directly and if you do like him let him know you are interested or just want to know why... good luck

maybe he wants to be more personal with you, and hes scared that someone will read his email messages etc. it all depends on what you want, if u want to go out with him go ahead but give him the signs.
