Cooking Perfect Pasta
The cooking time depends on the type of pasta you're using, its thickness and its shape. From the moment you put the pasta into the boiling water, calculate the cooking time shown on the package and add two minutes. Most pasta producers don't tell you this, but their cooking time is measured from the restarting of the boil. The package directions are usually accurate if you're using the entire package at once, but you may find that they overestimate the cooking time for smaller amounts. Once you find a brand of pasta you like and you determine the best cooking time, it makes sense to stick with it.
Start checking the pasta about halfway through the recommended cooking time. Take a piece out of the pot and run it under some cool water. Bite into it. If it's still hard and white in the middle, keep on cooking. If it's almost cooked through, try another sample in about 45 seconds. When it is done to perfection it will be translucent in the center and firm but not hard.

this best way to tell if past ais done is cook it then eat a few pieces ytou went it El Dente which means it Italian 3/4 of the way, you just get a piece and cut it and look at it it should have a soft coating and be just a thin line where it is hard in the middle the pasta will continue to cook after you take it out of the water this way you knopw it isnt over done........Good Luck

spaghetti is done when you can't see any more white on the tips and you can easily stir it around in the pot. Just look at the ends of the spaghetti, if there is a little discoloration, then the spaghetti isn't done.

Taste it. Do not overcook will be mushy and only fit for the garbage. When it is done be sure to pour off the hot water and rinse noodles with cold water to stop it from continuing to cook.

boil it for about 12 minutes and if you really don't want to throw it at the refrigerator to see if it sticks then just take a noodle out a eat it. If it is still hard then cook for a couple more minutes and try another one.

It really tastes best "al dente" - which means to the teeth, so when you test a little bite of it, it should still feel a teeny bit hard, but still cooked. I hate squishy pasta!

when it is al dente (to the tooth) although I guess you just have to cook it the way it says on the packet, then remove one strand and taste it to see if you like it or not.
