Here's what I think happened:
a. Farmers were paying them by the pound, bushel, etc. and not by the hour. This is because they don't want them sneaking off on paid time.
b. When they had to go relieve themselves, they cut loose right in the fields. Some probably also would bring toilet paper out there with them, and of course toilet paper can be blown around and/or would stick to the veggies like paper mache.
c. In addition to this, they would not watch their hands when they were done. They'd touch the veggies and put even more germs on them.
d. If runoff from cows was present, the illegals just picked the produce anyway. (They didn't alert the owners of the farms, as this would mean less produce to put on a scale.)

E-coli comes from feces, not urine.

And I doubt it was caused by illegals. They're just the scapegoat for crappy (no pun intended) sanitation practices at the packing plant.

People who are automatically making the assumption that the outbreak was caused by illegals probably have no proof whatsoever that illegal immigrants even work in the particular plant where it started.

The lettuce is from fouled irrigation water which I suspect is from cattle (we are shy of water here, and people 'reuse'). I don't know about the others, but I'll wait until the CDC gives us some information, if you will.

Quit blaming illegals for your unsanitary living conditions.

They ran out of T.P. and saw the lettuce and spinach laying about. The cool soft touch of the lettuce and spinach make them a natural substitute for the T.P.
Afterall, it looks like 'mud' on the lettuce and spinach anyway.

even if that was a fact, do you not always wash your produce before using it? and another thing you get E coli from undercooked or improperly cooked food.

That was a theory of mine. They don't have access all the time to clean, sanitary bathrooms. Plus they figure no ones looking.

thats not true because there would be a virus outbreak

If that were true, the outbreak would be of Hepatitis, not E. Coli. Please don't start ignorant rumors.
