I want to go composite cables from my cable box to my reciever, and then HDMI from my reciever to the my TV, is this possible?

Oops I meant "Component" not composite.

You may does this only if your receiver has a component to HDMI "video upconversion" feature. This feature is rare but will likely be standard a year or two from now.

Most receivers available now will not convert component to HDMI. The less expensive ones will output only the signal type that is input, and won't convert composite to s-video either.

In the consumer electronics industry it is possible, but if you don't tell us the model of your receiver how do you expect anyone to answer your question?

why don't you try reading your manual or posting the model number.
