If you want, you can sort of 'trick' him into asking you out. Say you want to go somewhere and have no one to go with. If he gets the hint and likes you, you may have just set up your first date.

talk to him,call him,for a few days or weeks,then laugh at every joke he gives to make him think hes really funny.
then ask him out.

just ask what he's doing friday night or whenever, and if he says nothing, say "how'd you like to grab a movie or something to eat with me?"
