Well, since ear lobe piercing is usually done with a gun, instantly inserting the earring, it's a little longer process. Also the experience is different for everyone accounting the gauge of the jewelry, the individuals pain threshold, the skill of the piercer and the location on the tongue. I personally have never had a naval piercing, but I have had two tongue piercings. They hurt less than what I thought they would. I had an audience with both, but I seemed that more excited I was, the less the pain (adrenaline is awesome!). I knew what to expect with the second, so it was a little more painful, as the nerves weren't acting up, plus the procedure was different. Coming from someone who had theirs done by a first-timer in a parking lot, I strongly encourage you do A) Do much research, about the piercing and the piercer B) Visit the studio before your planned appointment C) Get the best piercer you can, even if it will cost more. It's much better to get someone who knows what they are doing. My first piercing ended up crooked (which is why I got the second, I ended up w/the viper (two beside each other) style). While it was neat while it lasted, I definitely would do it different this time. The tongue is a muscle and is way different than piercing cartridge. It was seven years ago, but my most vivid memory was it felt warm, more than painful. I even ripped my first accidentally, so it was larger than the first.

hi there ive had my navel done top and bottom and my tongue done twice in the same spot. if you go to a proper piercing studio then having the tongue done the first time round does not hurt at all as they should numb your tongue with a spray, having it done twice on the other hand hurts like hell as the numbing spray cannot numb scar tissue, and having you navel pierced only hurts for a few seconds then becomes a sort of dull ache which is not so bad and wears off before you realise. the only problem with tongue piercings is the swelling it makes it tough to eat certain foods and some are banned all together as the food can become stuck in the hole (which is a open wound) and rot leaving behind a nasty infection. in both cases keep them very clean and look after your piercings. hope this helps :)

For the most part, piercings don't hurt. It's a quick prick of a needle and some pressure from clamps (if used)

Pain is relative and no one can tell you how much it will hurt YOU to get a particular piercing. Best bet is to take into account what extreme you are willing to deal with and go from there. If you really really wanted the piecing pain wouldn't be the factor here.

I cannot say from experience, but I would NEVER get a tongue piercing. Reasons are mainly relating to problems with oral hygiene; weak enamel, gum recession, gum disease, chipped and cracked teeth, bad breath (even with good dental habits, these problems occur). As far as navel piercings. I have 6. I did 4 of them myself, one right after the other and NONE of them hurt more than a shot from the doctor.

Either way, you'll do okay. Just make sure you are comfortable with the piercer and that they answer all questions and concerns you have ahead of time, and never pay more than $70 for a hole in your body.

The navel piercing. It doesnt hurt too much, similar to having your ears pierced and stings for a while afterwards. I found when I had my tongue pierced it was not sore at all. I barely felt it. It is inserted into the piece of skin between the two muscles either side. Although It pained terrible for weeks afterwards. Baby food and water!

I have my navel pierced and it didn't hurt at all. But some of my friends who got theirs done said it hurt bad. As far as the tongue, I guess I'm a big chicken but the after effects are what scares me. Swelling and the bigger risk of infection. Not being able to talk correctly, eating soft foods forever, etc..... So my vote goes to the tongue hurting more.

Neither my tongue or navel piercing hurt at the time.

My navel hurt far more afterwards though. It kept getting caught on waistbands, on buttons on my jeans, hurt if i bent over etc.

My tongue just swelled slightly, and had difficulty eating for a day or 2, but that was it.

So i would say navel is more painful.

Definately tongue... my tongue didnt hurt when it was getting pierced it was afterwards... once my tongue had swelled to the size of my mouth i could barely eat or talk for 2 weeks after. It was absolute agony.

Put it this way if my navel and my tongue piercings healed i would NEVER EVER EVER get my tongue done again... pain was TOOOOO much

i've never had my navel pierced, but i've had my tongue and both nips pierced... also have a PA piercing. out of all of those, the tongue was the worst... and it wasn't the initial pain from the piercing, it was the healing afterwards... and that's because the tongue tends to swell and it makes it difficult to eat, drink, do anything with your mouth...

I would imagine the tongue piercing is the most painful. Having a piercing through your tongue can damage your teeth - something to be aware of.

I have both, and neither hurt too bad, but I have to say the tongue is worse. It really doesn't hurt too much when they actually peirce it; since you have to swish with listerine for so long before they do it you tend to get a little numb. But after, when it starts to swell, it can be pretty uncomfortable. It's hard to get used to having a piece of metal in your mouth. As far as your naval goes, it stings for a second, but that's about it.
