There's no nice way. Just keep your yap shut. It's her business, not yours.

plan a lady's day out like on a birthday or just any occasion. Plan a day in the spa ofcourse followed by some time in the salon. Make sure you are like 5 women and all you have your eyebrows waxed, nails painted etc. All of you should also have new hairstyles and encourage her to. It will be fun and then when she has had the hair cut comment on how much younger, better cuter etc she looks. Make a point of comenting that the one she had before was cool but she was too cute for it etc. Trust me she will appriciate your honesty and help and bring your relationship closer coz now she will trust you more etc.

If its close to her birthday or anniversary or special occasion then what you do is get her a gift certificate to a salon and go with her and help her pick a new cut. Or just take her for a girls day out. I think these would be the nicest way you could.

Ok, I had 3 boys also, but great daughter-in-laws, first she has to like you, maybe you can give her a gift card to a beauty salon that you go to,and tell her that you think it would be great if you went together, your know use the approach a "Girls Days Out" or something, (you know her personality), Tell her she has great hair and maybe try different styles like maybe you do, (depending on how old she is), maybe the girl at the salon could offer suggestions, tell her her boys would love it!! Good Luck!!

Say something like "We need a girls day out...how about you and me going and getting our hair & nails done and having lunch or going and buying a new outfit to go with our new looks"
You can do it in love and maybe she really wants a new syle but is just too afraid to try something new. But if she has a partner and someone to encourage her, she just might go for it.

Why not make the best of this situation and enjoy it? You could take lots of pictures and bring them out in a few years after someone else tells her how bad it looks.

i guess if it was that horrid i would find a cute style or cut in a magazine and say something like "look, i saw this cut and instantly thought of you! i just think this matches you so well!" try to be encouraging! but remember to that whatever her hair looks like it's her hair, don't be mean about it!

Don't do it. Don't say anything critical about your mother-in-law unless your looking for drama and wish to invite criticism in return. That's how it works.
