This is the most common hair type in teenagers. It comes from the over production of oil from the sebaceous glands beneath the skin.

Greasy hair can look lank, oily and lifeless if left to its own devices. But don't stress if your hair's greasy when you're young. You may well find it becomes less so in your twenties when your hormones sort themselves out!

Contrary to popular belief, greasy hair's not caused by eating too many burgers and chips, but there's no harm anyway in laying off the grease and eating more fruit and veg.

On the plus side, greasy hair is in fact healthy hair, since all that oil protects each strand from dryness and split ends.

Greasy hair needs to be kept clean by frequent washing with a mild shampoo. If you use a conditioner buy one that is oil free. Some of those designed for greasy hair will also help slow down oil production.

If you use a hair dryer when styling your hair don't let it get too hot. Heat will stimulate more oil production.

I also have greasy hair...
I have asked my hairdresser this same question. She said that unfortunatly greasy hair is a sign of healthy hair. So in other words there is not much that you can do. Here is what I have found that works best for me...
1. Get a good shampoo for oily hair.
2. Try for a week or so only washing your hair every other day. ( the overstimulation of the scalp can cause extra grease so if you only wash every other day your scalp may reduce the amount of oil that it produces)
3. Try not to run your fingers through it.
4. Shampoo the entire head but only condition the ends.
5. Be glad that you have a healthy head of hair.

I had very oily hair until about age 40. I washed it daily with a clarifying shampoo. Check to see if your hair squeeks after you rinse and that means it is clean. Some people will tell you that means you stripped it, but with the oil you produce, it will be protected by oil again soon. Now, be sure to condition, but do not put any conditioner on the roots, because that will just add oil.

If you cannot wash one day, shake body or baby powder on the roots, tussle your hair, and brush out the powder. That will soak up a lot of the oil.

Daily washing with a quality shampoo made for oily hair (two sudsings and rinsings) and using a quality conditioner made for oily hair will do the trick. Avoid the "leave-in" conditioners b/c some of them are heavy. If you don't need a conditioner, don't use one. Also, some styling products can be too heavy for oily hair, so watch out for that.

I'm a hairstylist and what i tell people is use dish soap.. Palmolive or something like that for dishes.. Its for grease, it works wonders.. when you shower wash your hair with it twice.. Use small amounts the size of a quarter the first time, and a bit smaller the second, and scrub at your scalp the first time will loosen the dirt dust and oil, the second will wash it away.. trust me, it works! and you should try a conditioner with tea tree oil in it, its great for your hair.. and never use head and shoulders!!

Do you have curly hair? I do. I use Redken shampoo and conditioner for my hair. I used to have greasy hair, but ever since I have used Redken my hair has felt really healthy. Maybe you should change your shampoo.

Shampoo, contitioner, lay off of any hair products including hair gel. Wash it every other day. Use either Head&Shoulders or Garnier Fructis, it's always worked for my brother.
