You need to inform each agency, Experian, TransUnion & Equifax that you believe you have been a victim of identity theft. Tell them you want a fraud alert put on your account. The fraud alert tells creditors to contact you before opening any new accounts or making any changes to your existing accounts. You only need to contact one of the three companies to place an alert. The company you call is required to contact the other two, which will place an alert on their versions of your report, too. Once you place the fraud alert in your file, you're entitled to order free copies of your credit reports, and, if you ask, only the last four digits of your Social Security number will appear on your credit reports. Also an e-mail could be someone just trying to get your information from you, NEVER give out any information through e-mail or phone, this is how people become victims of identity theft. Good Luck, and the next time someone calls you like that hang up, and delete any e-mails saying anything like that.

The best suggestion I have for you is to get some kind of identity theft protection. There isn't a lot out there and what is offered by your credit card companies will only help you with the credit cards. Identity theft can mean someone commits crimes in your name or gets medical care in your name. It can be a mess!

I know of a service that for $12.95 a month will monitor your credit report and any time an Experian report is pulled, you get notified via email and you simply let them know if it isn't you. In the event that someone has wreaked havoc on your identity, this company will assign a licensed investigator that you give limited power of attorney to, and they will restore your identity FOR YOU! You won't need to spend hours on the phone cleaning up your life because of some other jerk out there. I was recently told that they will help with a pre-existing situation so this could be great for you!

Identity theft is the biggest crime on the rise because it is so easy to NOT GET CAUGHT! The mobs use it as well, I mean think about how easy it is for a murderer and thief to continue with life on someone elses information! Identities are bought and sold every day. Once your information is out there, you are seven times more likely to become a victim again because your information just circles till it can be used again.

I have the information regarding this company if you'd like to contact me. I'd love to help you out!

Good luck

It's www.annualcreditreport.com where you get the free reports once per year.

There will be phone numbers on each report for you to report the problem and one of their customer service rep's will help you from there.
