Traditional Catholics don't eat meat on Fridays. This is a tradition that is not as common as it was 30 and more years ago, but older people tend to do this. (Many restaurants that do this are located in areas where there are churches and/or older people living.) Today, most Catholics just fast on Fridays during Lent.

Back in the day... there were a lot of catholics and it was a catholic tradition to not eat meat on Fridays, because Jesus died on a Friday, and most catholics ate fish instead, so Friday is a traditional day for eating fish.

It's not only a Catholic tradition, but also a long-standing southern tradition to eat fish on Fridays. Fried catfish & cornbread is a favorite!

Friday is the day that Catholics traditionally eat fish. Most restaurants serve at least one fish or seafood dish -- not necessarily catfish, but other fish, shrimp or crabmeat.

Many catholics do not eat meat on friday, instead they have fish which is poultry. My family does this all year long. Every friday is usually fish night. It was rare when my mom did not make fish for dinner.
