Her choice

What would be rude is if you carried on asking her.

no, it's not rude. it is honestly direct. as her friend, you must respect her wishes. although a lot of people celebrate birthdays and many people don't' pay it much attention one way or the other. whatever the reason, it's an individual choice. the way you feel , i think, is because we have a tendency to wonder why those we know and love may not believe in or care for the same things we may cherish. live and let live. don't take it personally. it's just a part of her you are seeing at this particular time. maybe she has celebrated her birthday in previous years, but this year she just wasn't feeling it.

No its not. Maybe she is like having a problem and does not feel like celebrating. Maybe she does not want attention.

I have said that when my friends asked me to celebrate my birthday. Didn't think it was offending but I just did not feel like celebrating. Maybe your firend is like me

I dont think it is rude, some people, such as myself, dont really get caught up in things like birthdays. Or maybe she had a bad experience on a previous birthday and doesn't want to be reminded of it.

No, I dont think that it was rude we as individuals are entitled to our own way of celebrating. Just being with your friend and enjoy~ing her company is celebrating friendship.

She has the right not to want to celebrate her birthday, but I think her reaction to you wanting to celebrate it could have been nicer. I think a more appropriate answer would have been something like "Thanks for offering, but I'd rather not celebrate it."

No I dont it is your friends birthday and and if she doesnt want to do anything you have to respect her wishes now the difference would be if you had already made reservations some where and called every one to have them meet you there that would be rude

Maybe your friend really doesn't want to celebrate their birthday. Or maybe they just don't want to say they do out loud. I suggest asking all their friends, and maybe have a surprize party. Who can say no to that? That is maybe what they want anyways, they just hope you get the hint ;)

If she doesn't want to celebrate it. Leave it be. She may have a reason for not wanting to. Respect her wishes.
