A kitten should start getting their vaccinations at 8 weeks old(they shouldn't receive them younger then this since it can interfer with the natural immunity acquired by their mother and can actually cause vaccine problems later on)..the first ones at 8 weeks and the second set at 12 weeks and rabies at 16 weeks. The average age to neuter a kitten is 4-6 months old. Your cat will be much happier and healthier if he's neutered. he won't risk getting testicular cancer and other reproductive cancers and infections. He also won't develop unwanted behaviors that are hormone driven.
In addition to vaccinations a kitten should get a thorough vet exam and should be dewormed at 2, 4, 6 & 8 weeks of age and then periodically thereafter.
He won't hate you for it either.

Shots at about age 4 months, 6 months and 7 months. Also, it's a very good idea to have them dewormed. It's just a one time pill the vet gives. and for me was only $6.75. This is a lifetime pill.
The vet and the humane society said to get him neutered at age 6months not sooner. Their body hasn't developed until then and it may be dangerous to neuter, infections and such.
I would call your local humane societies and ask for a discount coupon for neutering/spaying. Also, they can refer you to a cheaper vet or clinic for this.
Here in Oregon the cost for neutering a male is $45 don't know about females, but I do know it's a bit more. I have gotten in on a discount day for fixing and will get $10 off.

a kitten should begin his vaccines at 6 weeks old, that would probably be considered his temporary, he should be wormed at that time as well. He should have his next vaccine in 4 weeks, and another worming- then his next in another 4 weeks, his final rabies vaccine is done at about 14-16 weeks of age-depending on your vet etc. he should also have his stool checked for parasites 3-4 weeks after his second worming as well. You should also have him tested for feline leukemia and aids at about 12 weeks as well. Most pets are spayed and/or neutered at the age of 6 months of age. You should have him neutered at that time, if you wait until he is a year he has more of a chance at learning how to spray in your house and that is a problem that is very hard to discourage once it has started. Good Luck to you and your new kitty.

no its not wrong to get a male cat fixed. This will prevent the cat from trying to wander, spray and it can also help prevent serious health problems. Check w/ your vet or the animal shelter there are lots of low cost animal clinics to help w/ spay/neutering and shots. I have been told that they can be fixed as early as 8 wks. most vets prefer not to do it until they are 6 months.

FVRCP/FELV shots at about 3 and 4 months and then 1 year later.
Rabies at 4 months and 3 years later.
Spay/neuter at about 6 months
Vets usually hold monthly clinics and so does Petco.
The FVRCP/FELV shot was $22 and rabies $9.
Note: My cat was very sleepy for a day after getting the rabies shot.

He won't know what has happened and it will be the best for his long-term health and a good life.
Call 1-800-spayUSA for a clinic near you where he can be neutered. Most clinics will neuter a kitten at around three months. The earlier the better. It's easy to put off and soon it will be Thanksgiving and Christmas and you won't have time to take him in.
