Dont do it, I did it from Ireland (BY Boat) to Liverpool then down through Wales and the U.K. for another boat to France then on to Holland, Brussles and Germany it was a nightmare the worst part being the trip through Wales and England, dark cramped and miserable and you simply cannot sleep. Save up the money and go by air or train at least. Flights are so cheap these days why put yourself through the hell of a bus trip.

It is pure hell. I did 2- 20 hour bus rides. One from Germany to Poland and then one back to Germany. Having friends with you does not make the experience better. The first ride I was with friends but on the way back I was alone and had to sit with a stranger. It gets hot, stuffy and cramped. A lil kid got sick behind me. The bathrooms get nasty and start to stink up the whole bus. It is a good way to travel cheap, but it is definetly not comfortable. I started to get antsy and have cabin fever and wanted to jump off the bus! Good luck if you decide to go that way.

Go to your local pub, take a chair and place it in a toilet cubical, shut the door and sit there for several hours. This will give you a very good idea of an overnight bus journey. For more realism, take a friend along and have him/her also take a chair into the same cubical and sit there with his/her feet stretched out into 'your space'.
Obviously choose a pub with more than one toilet or you'll get loads of people banging on the door and talking to you - this will make it too unrealistic.

Are you referring to the overnight coachs, like London - Edinburgh type thing? If so, I found the coachs and quality to be very nice (but I am American and Greyhound buses are Scary!), took this trip (also to Glasgow) many times with no problems. Long trip but you sleep most the way anyway. Try to get non-stop if you can.

It's degrading and you will end up feeling cramped, sweaty and horrible.

Some of them big tour buses nowadays might be OK though. But I'd be a bit wary of my travelling companions.

If you are the type of person who's not worth robbing or raping, it might be OK. If you can look after yourself it'll be OK, probably a bit of an adventure??

It's not fun to be fair. I went on a night bus from London to Spain when I was at school. I guess it is cheap and you get to see some unusual places you normally wouldn't, but waking up barly able to move and all your joints aching isn't fun!

Hellish. Boiling hot, cramped. There is no comfortable position to sleep in. It ruins the whole of the next day because you're knackered. If you want to travel overland, do it on a train.

Depends on the bus line and the route. But I have ridden on them twice and it is fine if you are a guy but spooky if you are a woman younger than 70.
