You don't want antidepressants...you want a fulfilling life. You want to be independent. You want to be financially secure. You want your parents to be proud of you. You want to be able to do things for yourself.

Tell me how a little pill will get you all that and I will get them for you. Otherwise, I suggest (with love) that you make a list of all the things you want in life and each day make a conscience step that brings you closer to your goals.

By taking antidepressants you surrender all your life's happiness and successes to a pill. It is very dis-empowering. You are not ill. You are not depressed. You are stuck, confused and lost and you will get yourself back on track...on your own...with nothing, but your feisty little self.

My best to you!

Just go to your doctor for a check and tell him/her you feel you need an antidepressant and you do not want your parents to know. HIPAA laws prohibit sharing of patient information and if you ask to exclude your parents then they cannot divulge the information to them. Ask your doctor about Lexapro 10mg per day. He should have some samples to start you on to see if they are going to help. If not there are other good medications on the market. May I suggest taking the free form amino acid Taurine. It is great with depression and is available at any health food store. It is a natural substance your body may be low in. It does help with depression. Try that first. Take about 2-4 per day and see how it does.

Can I ask why do you want antidepressants? Do you have eating disorder or are you "clinically" depressed? Do you suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder? Did you try psychotherapy first like CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and it didn't work out?

I don't want to interfere with your personal matters, but sometimes mental health problems can be related to issues within the family & informing ur parents can be a way of managing your problem(s).

Good luck and take care :)

Antidepressents can cause dependency and mess up the natural chemical reactions in your body. Instead, might I suggest a yoga or tai-chi class? Or maybe some other extra activity to keep your mind off of what's deppressing you?

Go to the county Mental Health center. They should help you find out if you qualify for services. You should ask about getting a full health exam also.
Along with antidepressants they should offer low cost or even free counseling. I dont know what your situation is but it surely dosent hurt to look for counseling and groups to share your pain and problems.

Check with the local health department to see if there are any mental health clinics offered. Most of the time these are free or VERY low cost. You may have to pay for the drugs they give you but it won't be very much. The important thing is the get the help you need!

See your family doctor. I take Zoloft and it works rather well. My husband takes it as well. We are just a family of depressed people I guess. I think Zoloft is the most common one but if that doesn't work your doctor will prescribe another. I have been taking it for atleast 10 years. I haven't had any problems with it. I hope that helps. Good luck!

You should try and find a church you like, it sounds weird to some but it really does help, I know I would never ever take Paxil or Effexor again, they are awful to come off of. I am currently taking Zoloft, this will be my second week, I hope to eventually not be on anything, I believe one day I will. But please dont think anti depressants are the answer,,,they can really screw with your head.

Are you in school? There's usually a school doctor you can see. Honestly, antidepressants aren't as good as you'd think. I've tried them, and they really just make you dull--your brain is a bit cloudy--not happier.

if you are over 18, all of your personal medical records are now secret only between your doctor and yourself.
If, however, your prescriptions are written out on your parents insurance form, there is nothing you can do to hide that beyond getting your own insurance.
