A good rule of thumb is to hang the artwork at 60" above the floor to the center of the piece of art. If you are hanging above a sofa or console, go about 4 or 5 inches above the piece.

I rememember at Home Depot being an item that has straight red laser lines. Level it any way you want and the lines come out perfectly straight. Even works when you hang shelves so items won'r slide right off.
