Yes you would probably get in trouble at work if you refused to help certain customers. How about getting disposable gloves? They sell them by the box and when you see the slobber monster heading your way put on a pair. If the customer asks why explain that you want to protect yourself from the monster's fluids. I agree that it is gross.

I know exactly what you are talking about but it's not only babys that do it. Everybody does it where I work. There is a guy that comes in all the time and he has slobber coming down his chin dripping all over himself then he "wipes" it off with his hands and then insists on touching me or giving me money eww. Actually, you work place should have rubber gloves on hand, whenever you get a slobber customer, slip a pair of those on and if they ask why, just tell them that you are allergic to something in the cart. They cannot do anything about it. Well I guess you'd have to be a good liar but hey working in retail there is a lot to lie about and can make you a serious lying professional. GOOD LUCK
and GOd speed.

Well consider the fact that the people who are purchasing items from the store you work at are literally paying you your paycheck.
Now by all means, being a cashier you should not have to touch anyone elses's bodily fluids, your not a doctor or a nurse.
But along with that your attitude sucks, I mean this is your job and you are getting paid for it. Have you considered maybe keeping a pair of latex gloves near by when a cart full of babies heads your way. This would be an alternative to any confrataion in the line.

OMG, first off, I read some of the other answers you got first, and the people that said things like... "just wait till you have kids, or you obviously don't have kids" blah, blah, blah... same ol' shite from those people. I really don't get the whole, I'm a parent and now I am above you and your silly phobias. People piss me off...
OK, anyways, so I completely agree with you. People have no consideration for anyone else anymore. If they did, they would not expect you to handle such items. I think the people that suggested gloves had a good idea. in fact , i think you should talk to your store manager about providing them for all of the employees. esp. with the holidays coming up and the hordes of sick customers coming through. I mean, they wouldn't want you getting sick and calling out during such a busy season right!?!
good luck, and I promise, even when i do have kids, i won't bring them to stores and let them slobber on stuff. it's not cute, sanitary or decent.

well next time just keep some napkins with you tocover anything with slobber. No one will stop having their babies sit on those carts.. so do what "the monk" does.. just keep napkins with you at all times.. baby wipes... lol.. I'm serious. i think no onw would want to ring up any slobbered on items.. you can use the napkin and just say you have that phobia with germs.. hopefully they undestand.

You could buy a container of wet wipes and wipe the object off before ringing it up. That would embarrass me so bad that would make me stop. And it shouldn't make your boss mad. If it does, I'd get another job. (I liked the idea of spitting on their change tho, That would put a stop to it, but some people have NO sense of humor. lol)

Yes, you would get in trouble. Might I suggest wearing rubber gloves? But as to the people's problems, it's just that they are lazy caretakers and feel that the kid will learn on their own how to stop putting things in their mouths, and that they don't need to interfere in their kids life whatsoever at that young of an age. However, I aggree with you, that is very repulsive. My sister had the same problem, and she just decided to wear gloves to work.

You are experiencing the reality of the world with it's accompanying ugliness. People just don't think. They trust that the cart is spotless clean and alright for their baby to lick on. They are ignorant. That's all. You cannot change ignornace, only the way you deal with it.
Frustration however kills your ability to think. Let frustration go...

yes you could get into trouble, children slobber, and all you have to do is keep napkins by your cash if this irritates you, the customer is always right, first lesson.
Second you are prejudiced against someone you once were. I bet you were a great sloberer when you were a child. You were a child once right.
