In my family we call them "comfies" when you reach a certain age. They can be blankets, a tatty old robe that just makes you feel better when you put it on, a toy , whatever. Men have favorite slippers, shirts etc. but they're still comfies. I'm 65 & I have one. It is an old robe that I got for christmas somewhere about 1977. If I'm feeling a little blue, out it comes & on it goes.

Does it matter what age someone gets rid of security blanket? As long as they are not walking around the office hugging it! lol My cousin had a security bunny, she used to rub it when she was stressed. By the time she was 20 there was not a lot left of the bunny, just a head and some stuffing but she would not get rid of it.
Why? As a stress buster, reassurance, reminder of happy times and being loved.
I suppose becasue the smell is part of the security, it takes us back to a secure and loving time.

not so much a blanket but a stuffed animal. my parents never did anything about it, so now, at the age of 14, im having to stop using it myself. the important thing is to take baby steps, one night without it, then two. or just take it a day at a time. but whenever im really upset it really helps to have something to hug.

My son had one that went everywhere with us. (except INSIDE stores, I hate germs). He used it religiously until he was about 4 and then it just became less and less important to him. I washed it constantly though, in hot water.....he still has it, it's on his bed but he hardly looks at it now. He's 5.

No age limit. Keep it till the smell knocks you out, if it makes you feel better.
