why do people say hi instead of something like oooo?

it's short
the sound goes up at the end and the tone indicates interest and friendliness
it's easy for babies to say and people with lisps

and it's english so it's a common way for people all over the world to say it especially when answering the telephone
language is adopted into the culture over time and hello, allo, hi, and greetings tend to have a high spoken vowel
