Tell them the truth, if they're really friends, they'll understand.

I just really prefer not to drink. Once in a blue moon, I'll have a margarita. Why not just order a virgin mary or a 7 Up--something like that. A lot of people I know aren't social drinkers. You really don't need an excuse. Drinking always makes me feel tired--maybe you could use that excuse. So MANY people are on anti-depressants, it's nothing to be ashamed of. Still, if you want to keep that to yourself, that's your prerogative. Don't feel obligated to explain anything! Just say you prefer not to drink.

Why do you feel like you need to explain? Unless you absolutely always always always drink alcohol, there shouldn't be eyebrows raised. Sometimes I feel like drinking alcohol, and sometimes I don't. If someone questions you, you can just tell them that you feel like having something else. People who try to pry after that are being nosey.

Tell them the truth. They'are your friends. You should be able to have a good time out without drinking. Ask your doctor if O'douls or other non alcoholic drinks will affect you.

You shouldnt be ashamed to be taking anti-depressants, I take them myself and I cant function without them I get to up and down, if they are really your friends tell them you cant drink because you are taking the anti-depressants and say but, I will be the Designated Driver and I bet they respect you more for it, I know I would at least that would be a very mature and adult thing to do........Good Luck I hope your friends understand your dilema

Tell them you're on medication. If they ask what, just say, Wellbutrin.

I'm sure they'll think nothing of it. Everyone gets sad sometimes.

I'm on Celexa (Citalaprom) which is also an anti-depressant.. and no one cares...it doesn't matter.

They'll understand, everyone goes through hard tiems.

I can fully relate with this one. I would just tell them you feel really crappy afterwards (next day) and get unexplained anxiety from drinking.. and you would rather not waste the whole next day feeling like crap. They probably wil appreciate the designated driver part too.

If not lay low for a while.

A) If they're friends, they'll understand.
B) If it just makes you feel uncomfortable, say you'll be the DD
C) Say your mold allergies are acting up (like mine are), which gives you killer sinus headaches after even one shot or beer.

I agree with Ron. Tell them, depression is nothing to be ashamed of. If they really are your friends they will understand. If they don't then sod 'em. You need acceptance not judgements.

Why do you feel you must give an explanation?

If you are drinking pop, water etc. you are drinking!
