I know it sounds funny, but there must be something I can do to prevent this annoying thing from happening.

Try the Insert button just above delete. The button toggles between inserting and overwriting characters.

Turn your "Insert" key off. You must have inadvertently hit it while you were typing. On a standard keyboard it is above the "Delete" Key

You have it set on OVERTYPE mode instead of INSERT mode.

Look for a key on the keyboard marked INSERT. Click on it. All fixed.

hit the >insert key< this should do it.
