Iraq should have a relatively strong military by now but the U.S is not ready to wean them yet.

Weak at the moment. Remember, the U.S. has a very neat and organized military. A military thats been operating in the same way for many years. They just have had an organized military for maybe a year.
No matter how many troops they have, 400,000 or more, it doenst much matter. It could never hurt if the U.S. was still in Iraq training for 5 more years to make them better. I believe they aren't ready to be on their own.
We pull out, somebody like saddam attacks and we gotta go right back to help defend. or a terrorist organization takes over and we gotta start again.

What are you talking about?
The U.S. military is presently occupying Iraq, which means that Iraq has a strong military (the U.S.'s!)
It's not like the U.S. military is fighting with Iraq's military.
The U.S. military likes to tell us that they're fighting "terrorists" whoever those people may be. More like they're enraging people formerly moderates now turning into terrorists because they don't like seeing their friends and families killed and raped. (Yes, American soldiers rape women from time to time.)
If it was as simple as the U.S. military conquering the Iraqi military, that was done a long time ago. But, that's not the case. Nobody knows what's going on other than people are being killed.

I do not know! Actually, nobody knows except CIA and organizations like that. The fact that Iraq military was trained by US does not make them niether stronger nor weaker. I assume though that Iraq military is weaker than US military simply because it was trained by US. US will never allow Iraq to be strong enough to challange American military.

in comparison with a Western military force, the Iraqi military is weak.
Another thing to remember, the attitudes of Iraqis is much different from the American Soldiers training them.

They have a decent military... but Iraqi soldiers are the targets of terrorist attacks, which has weakened their moral.
